Student Resource Center & Packages
- Both D’Agostino (110 West 3rd Street, Apt # , New York, NY 10012) and Hayden (240 Mercer Street, Apt # , New York, NY 10012) residence halls have a Resource Center located in the lobby. The Resource Center manages all aspects of mail/parcel receipt for their respective halls.
- Upon receipt of a package an email notification will be sent to your NYU email only.
- Packages not retrieved within 3 business days will be returned to sender.
- To pick up your package, you must visit the Resource Center during business hours and present a valid NYU ID.
- All mail and packages must have your full name on the address label. Otherwise the package cannot be released to you as your ownership cannot be verified. We cannot accept mail or packages for any person that is not a confirmed resident of the residence hall. Additionally, cash-on-delivery items will not be accepted.
Perishable Goods and Food Delivery: The resource center cannot accept deliveries of perishable goods which have not been properly insulated as our facilities are not equipped to maintain the appropriate temperature for perishable goods. Packages from companies which do not insulate their containers will follow current procedures. It is the responsibility of the resident to arrange for pickup of these packages in person upon their delivery.
Open packages/non-courier items: The resource center cannot accept non-couriers items nor open package deliveries.
Door Attendants and the Front Desk
- Both Hayden and D’Agostino residence halls provide 24 hour front desk attendants. In addition to ensuring only residents and their approved guests are entering the building, our attendants provide vacuum cleaners, emergency lock-out keys, and moving bins.
- All residents must show a valid NYU ID Card with the corresponding residential sticker to enter their residence halls. Residents of other NYU Law Residence Halls must be announced as guests.
- Front desk attendants will contact you on your cell phone to announce guests and food deliveries, if you have added this number to your NYU Home account in Albert.
- One apartment key and one mail key is issued to each resident upon arrival.
- Residents who have locked themselves out may obtain a lock-out key from the Front Desk Attendant by presenting their University ID. The lock-out key must be returned to the front desk within 15 minutes or, for security reasons, a $75.00 dollar fee will be assessed and the locks changed.
- Lost keys (room or mail) should be reported to your hall office immediately. A $75.00 lock replacement charge is assessed on all lost or overdue room/guest keys for security reasons. If both mail and room key are lost, then a $100.00 charge will be assessed and the locks changed.
Lost and Found
- Hayden and D’Agostino residence halls have lost and found boxes located at the Front Desk.
- All residents and visitors must check out by 10:00 am. If you wish to change your departure, contact the NYU Law Office of Residential Life to see if your request can be accommodated.
- There will be a $300.00 late check-out fee assessed to any resident who fails to check out on time.
- Housing payments may be made online via e-check, by phone or in person. Bills are processed and distributed by the University Bursar’s Office, located at 383 Lafayette Street, 1st Floor.
- Both D’Agostino and Hayden halls receive cable television through NYU Campus Cable. Residents must provide their own television sets and cable cords. Follow the instructions on how to connect your television to campus cable.
- D’Agostino and Hayden residence halls are part of the NYU telephone service. Telephone numbers are provided to students upon arrival. This service includes: Unlimited local calls, call waiting, and voice mail.
- Students who want landline service must now sign up for the service.
- A long distance calling card is required for international calls. For additional information, or assistance with your service please see the NYU ITS Telephones & Voicemail website.
- The wireless network at NYU Law is part of NYU's campus-wide network. To connect, select the 'nyu' wifi network and enter your NYU NetID and password; If prompted, click Connect or Continue to accept the security certificate. Follow this link for additional wireless instructions.
- Residents of NYU residence halls can register up to five devices for use on the wired and/or wireless network, including laptops and desktop computers as well as game consoles and other devices.
- Laundry facilities are located in Hayden (on the 7th and 17th floors.) and D’Agostino (on the 12th floor by the small terrace) residence halls.
- Laundry facilities are open for use daily between 7:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
- Our laundry facilities utilize the Smart Card pay system. Using one of the machines located in the laundry room, the smart card can be loaded with money from a credit or debit card. Residents can also pay by mobile phone via Hercules CP Mobile app: D'Agostino Instructions/Hayden Instructions.
- D’Agostino Residence Hall is additionally equipped with a laundry notification system. Machine (washer/dryer) availability can be checked using the internet. Additionally, an email alert or text message can be requested when either machines are available or laundry is finished.
- Log onto Laundry Alert and type in “NYUL898” when prompted to sign in.
Heating and Air Conditioning
- Hayden and D’Agostino apartments have units for heating during the winter, and cooling during the summer. Air conditioning and heating cannot be run simultaneously within the building. As seasonal temperatures change, the buildings switch between the two systems.
- The wall-mounted thermostat in each room can be set as follows: Fan speed can be set to: off, low, medium, or high. In the heating season: temperature can be set between 68-74°F. In the cooling season: temperature can be set between 70-78°F.
- In addition, the temperature in unoccupied bedrooms is automatically lowered to a minimum of 55 degrees in winter and raised to a maximum of 84 degrees during summer. The smart building management system maintains these temperatures in a range such that comfortable conditions are restored within 15 minutes when bedrooms are entered. This is an energy savings measure as part of NYU’s sustainability initiative.
Electricity and Electrical Outlets
- Each bathroom and kitchen is equipped with a ground-fault electric outlet. Should moisture levels in these rooms raise to high, the outlets will automatically shut off. Once moisture returns to safe levels, pressing the reset button will restore power to the outlet.
- As part of New York University’s ongoing sustainability initiatives, the Office of Residential Life asks that all residents turn off lights when leaving their apartment.
- The kitchens and bathrooms in our residences are equipped with low-volume exhaust fans that operate twenty four hours per day. The fans are located on the roof and are calibrated to provide an adequate turnover of air in each apartment.
- The smoke detectors used at NYU are set to early warning. These detectors will activate before fire, toxic gases, smoke, or heat reach dangerous levels. These require no adjustment and residents should refrain from tampering with them. If the device is activated, it will automatically cease once the triggering condition no longer exists.
- Note: If your apartment smoke detector sounds due to cooking, do not open the door to your apartment. Turn off your stove, and open a window. Opening the door could cause the smoke to activate the building alarms, triggering an evacuation and emergency response.
- If an emergency arises and the need for EMS, Police, or Fire personnel is required, always dial 911.

Note: If you or someone living with you has a special need which will hinder your egress during an emergency or evacuation, please let the Office of Residence Services know ahead of time so that the office is prepared to send assistance during a crisis.
Emergency and Fire Safety Procedures
- Residents should be fully aware of Emergency and Fire Evacuation Procedures and the locations of building exits. If there is a fire, or you must evacuate, follow the path outlined on the inside of your apartment door in an orderly fashion. Familiarize yourself with the location of the red pull-box fire alarms located throughout the buildings.
- New York University is bound by federal law to protect each resident's right to privacy. We must abide by the tenets of the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. According to FERPA guidelines, NYU cannot provide information about any student's residency to third parties. This information includes, but is not limited to, assignment verification, account statements, and telephone numbers. Please visit the NYU FERPA Policy website for more information.
Personal Property Insurance
- NYU assumes no responsibility for your personal property. This includes property lost, stolen, or damaged in academic and residential buildings.
- As noted in the housing license, each resident is responsible for his or her personal property; therefore, it is suggested that residents carry property insurance. Renters' or tenants' insurance is a form of personal property insurance which can provide a year of coverage at a reasonable cost. If you do not already have a policy that will cover lost or damaged property, you may choose to purchase an insurance policy, some of which are especially designed for university students. - All residents of D’Agostino and Hayden halls are provided with a compost pail for their apartment. All compostable materials collected in this pail should be placed in the green compost bin located in the refuse closets located on each floor.
- Compost these following items: All food (fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, poultry, seafood, bread, rice, pasta, bones, etc.), coffee grounds and filters, paper bags and newspaper used to wrap food scraps, or any paper used to line the compost pails, tea bags, food soiled paper (napkins, paper towels, paper plates, etc.). No Styrofoam or plastic dishes/cutlery as those items are not considered to be compostable
- Recycling bins are located in the Hayden Hall refuse closets. In D’Agostino Residence Hall they can be found by the elevators.
- Both Hayden and D’Agostino residence halls utilize single stream recycling. No separation of glass, paper, plastic or metal is necessary and can be placed in the same bin.
- An ATM machine is located in the D’Agostino Hall Commons.
- Residents are reminded that social gatherings in apartments should be conducted in such a manner that is considerate of apartmentmates and neighbors. Parties should be concluded by 11:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, Saturdays, the deadline is 1:00 a.m. Parties may never occur in hallways or in any common areas.
- For the consideration of your neighbors noise (eg. music and loud conversations) from your gathering should not be heard in adjoining apartments.
- Quiet hours may be added during exam periods or for other special circumstances. Of course, twenty-four hour courtesy hours are always in effect.
- As per the housing license, students in Law School housing are not permitted pets of any kind. Visitors and guests may not bring pets into the building.
Emotional Support and Service Animals in the Residence Halls
- Keeping or caring for pets or animals in any residence hall is not permitted with the exception of fish in a tank no larger than ten gallons, dogs identified as service animals or emotional support animals previously approved by the Moses Center for Student Accessibility. The owner of any emotional support/service animal is ultimately responsible for the actions of the animal. As such, students must ensure proper noise control, hygiene and care of their approved emotional support/service animal so that it is not disruptive to the educational pursuits of the community. Failure to do so, may result in a conduct action.
Residents are required to abide by all New York State and New York University regulations regarding the use of alcohol. In residence halls, persons under the age of 21 may not be in the presence of alcohol or alcoholic beverage containers. Students (including residents and non-residential students), and guests who are of legal drinking age (21 years of age or older) may possess and consume alcoholic beverages (referred herein “alcohol”) within NYU residence halls in accordance with the following:
(A) Alcohol may be consumed only within assigned rooms or suites. Open containers of alcohol are prohibited in common spaces such as hallways, terraces and lounges, in public areas such as lobbies, or in outdoor areas adjacent to residence halls.
(B) Alcohol or alcoholic beverage containers may not be possessed, stored, or consumed in any room or shared common space within a suite whose residents are under the age of 21.
(C) Should students of legal drinking age reside in the same suite as students who are under the legal drinking age, alcohol may only be possessed, stored, or consumed within bedrooms where all students assigned to that room are of legal drinking age.
(D) Students of legal drinking age who bring alcohol into a residence hall or possess alcohol in a residence hall are responsible for its legal use. This includes taking reasonable precautions to prevent the possession of alcohol by underage students and guests.
(E) Kegs or devices that permit storage and distribution of alcohol in bulk quantities, or that allow unregulated access to alcohol by any means, are prohibited. Devices or mechanisms that facilitate rapid consumption (funnel bongs, etc.) are also prohibited. Participation in activities that facilitate or promote the rapid, dangerous, and/or forced consumption of alcohol (i.e. drinking games) is prohibited.
(F) Residents are prohibited from possessing open containers or serving alcohol in any residence hall’s common use areas including, but not limited to, terraces, study lounges, TV/game rooms and lobby areas.
(G) Alcohol may not be sold or distributed in the residence halls. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to: cash bars; events to which admission tickets are sold or fees are charged (e.g. entertainment charge or annual dues); fees for access to an open bar; and parties at which alcoholic beverages are served and for which contribution or donations to offset the costs of the party are sought.
(H) Residents are responsible for the behavior of their guests, including any violation of policy by their guest(s).
Illegal & Controlled Substance Policy
- Marijuana (in all forms) is a prohibited substance in the residence halls. Any student who is found to be in possession of, in the presence of or using marijuana will face disciplinary action and possible criminal charges. Water pipes, bongs, hookahs, and other paraphernalia commonly associated with drug use also are prohibited in the residence halls.
- The possession or use of narcotics and/or other controlled substances without a valid prescription, or misuse of prescribed medication and/or other legal substances, is prohibited in the residence halls. Students are expected to obey Federal and New York State Laws regarding the use, possession, sale and distribution of controlled substances.
- NYU is a smoke-free campus. Smoking in all residence halls is prohibited. Any resident or guest wishing to smoke must exit the building and do so in the designated smoking areas. This includes the use of electronic smoking devices.
- Exterior bike storage spaces are available by lottery at the start of the academic year. Other spaces are available outdoors in designated areas; any bicycles found chained or stored attached to undesignated building property will be removed.
- Specifically prohibited actions include, but are not limited to, smoking (including e-cigarettes), the burning of incense/candles/other types of open flame devices, excessive noise, pets, exterior radio and television antennae/satellite dishes/cables, air conditioners, air coolers, electric heaters, pressure cookers, grills, possession or use of firearms or explosives, possession or use of narcotics, illegal possession or inappropriate use of alcohol or controlled substances, placing items on window ledges, removal of or tampering with window guards, possession of an evergreen or other flammable decoration, throwing items out of windows, inappropriate use of fire extinguishers, solicitations, removing School of Law furniture or equipment. Free standing halogen torchiere pole lamps or halogen desk lamps, and tubular halogen bulbs are strictly forbidden in School of Law residences due to the potential danger of fire associated with their use.
